If prices keep rising the way they have for
the last two years, we will sooner or later get to the point
where we will produce more than our people can afford to buy.
Then we'll be in for another depression.
That's why I have tried for the last two years to get
the Republican 80th Congress to do something about high prices.
But they have refused to do anything at all.
I even called them back into special session last
summer, but all they did was to play politics for two weeks and
then they went home.
The Republicans have undermined our standard of living
by their refusal to do anything about prices.
They have also made a head-on attack against labor unions,
which protect the wages and working conditions of our workers.
