    "ocrText": "-2-\ns\nTRUMAN\nMAIN\n\"NATIONAL\nARCHIVES AND\nRECORDS\nSERVICE\"\nIf prices keep rising the way they have for\nthe last two years, we will sooner or later get to the point\nwhere we will produce more than our people can afford to buy.\nThen we'll be in for another depression.\nThat's why I have tried for the last two years to get\nthe Republican 80th Congress to do something about high prices.\nBut they have refused to do anything at all.\nI even called them back into special session last\nsummer, but all they did was to play politics for two weeks and\nthen they went home.\nThe Republicans have undermined our standard of living\nby their refusal to do anything about prices.\nThey have also made a head-on attack against labor unions,\nwhich protect the wages and working conditions of our workers."
