DANVILLE, ILLINOIS
MARK ARCHIVES "NATIONAL SERVICE" RECORDS AND TRIME
GOVERNMENT
It is good to be here in Danville.
I am proud of you folks for I hear that you
are going to send Wayne Cook, one of America's great
war heroes, to Congress as your Representative.
I hear also that Paul Douglas, a great Marine
hero, is going to the Senate, and Adlai Stevenson is
going to Springfield.
When I'm here in Danville, I always think about
the time, a hundred years or SO ago, when a group of
Abraham Lincoln's lawyer friends put him on trial before
the "orgmathorial court" down at the old McCormick House
because his lawyer fees were too low. Lincoln lost the
case and was fined a jug of whiskey.
Think how out of place Lincoln would be in his
own party today.
