    "ocrText": "-2-\nDanville\nSo; the grain lobbies got Republican Jesse Wolcott of\nMichigan, and Republican Leo Allen right up here in Chicago,\nIllinois, to lead the fight in the 80th Congress to change\nthe charter f the Commodity Credit Corporation so thet it\ncould no longer secure storage space for bumper crops.\nThat was a plain sell cut to the lobbies by the Repub-\nlican 80th Congress.\nWell now, what happened? This year we had a bumper\ncron, and we have no place to put it. I was down in Southern\nIllinois the other day, and corn down there in Southern\nIllinois was selling for one dollar a bushel, and the support\nprice of corn is forty-seven cents a bushel. Now, who is\ngetting that forty-seven cents? Not the farmer -- not the\nfarmer. The speculators are getting it because they prevented\nthe ability to store that grain and give the farmers the bene-\nfit of the support price.\nFarmers all over the country are being forced to dump\ntheir grain as \"distress grain,\" or let it rot on the ground,\nbecause the Connocity Credit Corporation no longer has the\npower to provide emergency storage space for bumper crops.\nThat is the Republican program, pure and simple. The farmers\ncannot get the Government support price, because their crops\nare not in storage. That is typical of the Renublican attitude\ntoward the farmer, and when the farmer suffers, every one of\nyou in Cities like Danville, feels the effects.\nDon't let the Renublicans fool you with their smooth\ntalk about what they are going to do for the farmers, and the\nworkers, and the smell businessmen in this country.\nTheir actions speak louder than worls. You know,\nUncle Joe Cannon had quite a career in this great town, and he\nwas present when one of your colleggues said he would rather\nbe right than President. 011 Uncle Joe made 8 femous answer.\nHe said, \"I am sure that my worthy friend will never be right,\nor President, either. it\nI think that is absolutely true if the Republicans today.\nThey will never be right, and they will never elect E Presi-\ndent if the people understand what they are trying to do.\nYou know what is right in this campaign. It is within\nyour power to detérmine on election day whether you will have\na Government that willbe to your best interest, or whether\nyou will have a Government that is run by the lobbies that\nhave run the 80th Congress. Now, there won't be any difference\nin the next Congress if you send Republicans back there. The\nsame old backward-looking leadership will be in charge.\nYou have got to clean this thing out. You have got to\nsend Democrats to Congress this time, and you have got to sup-\nport the administraticn that is looking out for the people.\nGo to the polls on election day end vote for yourselves.\nWhen you do that, you will vote the straight Democratic ticket,\nand I won't be troubled with the housing shortage, I will still\nlive in the White House.\nI\nI can't tell you how very much/appreciate this wonderful\nturnout. It shows you are interested in the welfare of the\nCountry. Show that interest on election day. Get up early,\nand vote for the Democratic ticket on the second of November.\n# # # #"
