    "ocrText": "-2-\nI told cll about what they did to the farmer in C speech\nlast night in Shringfield, Illinois.\nWhile the Republican Congress was passing laws like that\nto help special intérests, they weren't doing a thing to help\noll the rest of us by stopp ing skyrocketing prices. I asked\nthem to pass price control laws time and again. They refused.\nThey refused to do anything about the housing shortage.\nThat is the kind of record the Renublicans write when\nthey get into office, and that is the record that the Republican\ncandidate for President says he is proud cf. New he says he\nis proud of that good-for-nething 80th Congress. I er glad\nsomebody can be proud of it. I can't.\nNew, the Democratic Perty has a positive program for\nplaces ti live, for prosperity, and for peace. We intend to\nrepeal that Taft-Hortley Act, SC that labor can resune its\nprogress. We intend to see that the purchasing power of the\nfarmer remains on a parity with the rest of the population.\nwo intend ti pass a comprehensivo housing law to clear\naway slums, provide good rural housing, and provide public\nlow-rent housing in our cities.\nWe intend to stop the rise in prices.\nWe intena to go forward with the development of our\nnatural resources, by such means scil conservation, and\nreforestation, the utilization of our witer resources, and the\ndevelopment of great waterways like the St. Lawrence Seoway.\nThat is the kind of government I am sure you want.\nNow, if that is the kind of government you want, get up\nearly on the morning of election dey, and go to the nolls.\nDon't hesitate! -- just vote the Democratic ticket straight,\nand then you will have a Congress and e President and a\nGovernment that you can depend upon to work for you, and not\nfor the special interests.\nAnd another thing, I won t be troubled with the housing\nshortage, I can still stay in the White House for another four\nyears.\nI can't tell you how much I appreciate this wonderful\nturnout. This is the way the people have turned cut all over\nthe United States. I knew they are interested, and I know\nthey are going to vote the Democratic ticket."
