Tannenwald and Lanigan DATE: OCT 5 1951 FROM : Elting Arnold SUBJECT: Elling annold At the last meeting of the Committee Mr. Lanigan circulated two lists of questions. A large part of the information requested, which pertained to the Treasury, was assembled sometime ago but has been held in my office pending the next meeting of the Committee. Since this meeting has been postponed I believe it to be desirable to send you the information by messenger. At present I am submitting the information only to you purely as a matter of convenience. If you think it desirable that the documents should be distributed by messenger to the other members of the Committee I will do so immediately upon hearing from you. One of these lists circulated by Mr. Lanigan was headed "Summary of Information on China Lobby" and was numbered with Arabic numbers while the other had no heading and was numbered with Roman numbers. These lists are referred to below as the Arabic list and the Roman list, respectively. Arabic list. 1. Referred to the Bureau of Internal Revenue in accordance with attached memorandum of September 7 to E. I. McLarney from Elting Arnold. The information received from the Bureau will be sub- mitted as soon as appropriate arrangements covering the furnish- ing of income tax materials have been made, in line with my conversation with Mr. Tannenwald. 2. The name of Norman Paige has been referred to the Bureau of In- ternal Revenue in accordance with attached memorandum of Septem- ber 7 to E. I. McLarney from Elting Arnold. (a) The Bureau of Internal Revenue had already been requested to report on Senator Clark's income tax returns and any infor- mation available will be submitted as soon as appropriate arrangements covering the furnishing of income tax materials have been made.
