Weather: Considerable low cloudiness at 2,000 feet over South Korea. Scattered thunderstorm activity along the south sector. North Korea generally fair. Forecast for 16 August: Broken clouds at 2,500 feet along the south and east coast, becoming scattered; clear inland. Scattered showers along the southeast coast and in mountain areas. Visibility unrestricted except in showers. 2. Soviet Participation: Negative. 3. Enemy Situation: a. Reports indicate that 2 mechanized battalions, probably including armor, are moving to the Chinju area. The enemy in unknown strength is reported northwest of Kogan holding the former main supply route. Reports indicate that a reinforced enemy battalion is regrouping in the Haman area and plans to attack toward Masan. Small enemy groups continue harassing friendly units. An unknown number of enemy are firmly entrenched on the Obang-San ridge line west of Tundok. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. The 4th North Korean Division bridgehead in the 24th U.S. Infantry Division sector, west of Yongsan, offered strong resistance, but was driven back approximately 1,000 yards. However, the enemy counterattacking during the night, cut into friendly lines, and continues to resist (stiffly) renewed friendly attacks. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. The previously reported enemy attack east of Tuksong was repulsed and completely `mopped-up with extremely heavy enemy casualties reported.
