Weather: Clear to scattered low clouds based at 3,000 feet over most of Korea. In Northeast Korea an overcast based at 12,000 feet, with tops above 20,000 feet and moderate to heavy icing in the clouds. Visibility was unrestricted, except for haze in the valleys. Forecast: Generally broken to overcast at approximately 4,000 feet, with clouds at a higher level over South Korea. Visibilities unrestricted. 2. Soviet Participation: Negative. 3. Enemy Situation: a. After seizing Sobuk-San, elements of the 5th U.S. RCT withdrew shortly after dark under pressure from an estimated enemy battalion. Elements of the 5th U.S. RCT are also supporting ROK police in a counter- attack. An enemy force with an estimated strength of 1,000 successfully resisted a counter attack launched by elements of the 24th U.S. RCT in an effort to restore one company's position which was lost 20 August. The enemy continued to hold stubbornly as the counterattack was renewed and fighting continued into the night. Elements of the 24th U.S. RCT launched a new counterattack 0900/22 (KT). A strong enemy force of undetermined strength attacked the positions of the 1st battalion, 35th U.S. RCT, at 0400/22 (KT), and effected a penetration in one company area. Enemy pressure diminished in intensity after daylight with the pressure shifting to the sector of the 2d battalion, 35th U.S. RCT. An enemy force of unknown strength with artillery support attacked the ROK Marines in Tongyong 2100/21 (KT). Enemy reinforcements are reported to have arrived in the Tongyong area during the night. No enemy activity is reported on the southern portion of the 24th U.S. Infantry Division front.
