1. Situation in Brief:
GROUND
On the east coast, heavy enemy attacks in the center of the ROK
Capitol Division forced the 17th ROK Regiment to withdraw to positions
approximately 500 yards south of Kigye, while the 3d ROK Division, to the
right, attacked and made slow progress against strong enemy resistance.
In the northern sector, the enemy, supported by heavy mortar and small
arms fire penetrated the 19th ROK Regiment position about 1,500 yards
before the attack was contained. In the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division sector
some sporadic artillery, mortar, and small arms fire was received during
the early morning of 30 August. In the 2d U.S. Infantry Division sector,
there were several attempted crossings of the river by the enemy during
the night of 29-30 August; the probings were dispersed by friendly artillery
and small arms fire. In the south sector, considerable enemy activity was
reported, with some slight penetration of the 5th U.S. RCT positions, which
was later wiped out by a counterattack. Friendly forces launched a second
counterattack, but results are unreported. (FECOM) (SECRET)
NAVY
Navy air struck targets in western Korea and supported ground
troops in south Korea. Naval gunfire executed call fire missions and sup-
plied harassing and interdiction fire as requested by ground troops. Naval
air and surface forces patrolled Korean and Formosan waters. (COMNAVFE)

AIR
During 29 August, FEAF flew 559 sorties, including 370 combat.
On the night of 29-30 August, 32 intruder sorties were flown. On 30 August,
19 B-29's attacked bridge targets in west central Korea. (FEAF)(SECRET)
2. Weather:
Clear except visibility reduced to one mile in scattered showers in
central Korea. Forecast: Broken low clouds by afternoon with scattered
showers. Visibility unrestricted except in showers. (FEAF) (SECRET)
