1. Situation in Brief:
GROUND
In the 25th U.S. Infantry Division sector, elements of the 35th U.S.
RCT repulsed 4 enemy attacks during the night of 11-12 September. In the
sector of the 2d U.S. Infantry Division, the previously reported attack by a
regiment against the 23d and 38th U.S. RCT's was repulsed during the
morning of 11 September, with an estimated 1,000 enemy killed in action.
Elements of the 7th U.S. Cavalry RCT, in the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division
sector, made slight gains in a counterattack on the afternoon of 11 Septem-
ber. A heavy enemy counterattack during the same afternoon caused ele-
ments of the 8th U.S. Cavalry RCT to relinquish a portion of the positions
captured in the morning. A later counterattack by friendly forces in this
area encountered strong enemy resistance. In the north, the 15th ROK
Regiment continued to hold against constant enemy pressure, while elements
of the 21st ROK Regiment advanced 3,500 yards during the afternoon of 12
September. The 8th ROK Division advanced 6,000 yards against the disor-
ganized 15th North Korean Division on 11 September in the Yongchon area,
and continues to advance. Task Force Davidson seized its first objective,
and continued to advance against the enemy penetration south of Yonil,

NAVY
Gunfire from ships of the east coast patrol off Pohang harassed
enemy troops and interdicted movements of North Korean men and material.
Other ships maintained the east coast blockade. Naval gunfire from ships
in Chinhae Bay responded to callfire requests from the 25th U.S. Infantry
Division. Reports of enemy mines in west coast waters suggest the prob-
ability of an enemy mine warfare campaign in the Yellow Sea. (COMNAVFE)
