1. Situation in Brief:
GROUND
Enemy activity in the Eighth U.S. Army zone has been
confined largely to attempted infiltration to the north by scattered
disorganized groups and stragglers who surrender willingly upon
the approach of friendly patrols. An enemy regiment which had
been impeding the advance of elements of the 6th ROK Division
near Chechon has been dispersed and our advance continues. Along
the east coast the 3d ROK Division is within three miles of the 38th
parallel, while the ROK Capitol Division has advanced to Yongpo,
five miles south of the parallel. In the south, the 25th U.S. Division
reached the west coast at Kunsan. In the Seoul area, the U.S. X
Corps continues to block enemy movements through its zone. The
187th Airborne Infantry advanced to the northern tip of the Kumpo
peninsula, mopping-up enemy remnants in the area. (FECOM) (SECRET)
NAVY
Minesweepers DOYLE, ENDICOTT, MERGANSER, and
MAGPIE commenced minesweeping operations to provide a safe
channel along the east coast up to the 39th parallel. Naval
aircraft from PHILIPPINE SEA, BOXER, and VALLEY FORGE
hit targets in west central Korea and aircraft from BADOENG
STRAIT continued to provide close support for troops in Seoul
area. During 30 September, 298 sorties were flown by naval

AIR
On 30 September, FEAF flew 567 sorties of which 279
were combat, The fighters destroyed 2 IL-10's near Hamhung.
On 1 October, 46 B-29's were dispatched to continue the attacks on
