Situation in Brief: GROUND The 3d ROK Division advanced 43 miles north of the 38th parallel to Kosong: Encountering poor roads, the ROK Capitol Division returned to Yangyang, and is now proceeding north along the coast, seeking a suitable road net to the west, The 7th U.S. Marine Regiment captured Uijongbus The newly formed 11th ROK Division is enroute to relieve the 25th U.S. Infantry Division which in turn will be deployed in the present zone of the U.S. I Corps. ROK Marines secured the city of Mokpo® The most signifi- cant enemy activity was the unconfirmed sighting of extensive vehicular convoy movements south, toward and through, Pyongyang, Constant air surveillance of the routes between Sariwon and Sunchon is now being main- tained, (FECOM)(SECRET) NAVY WORCESTER, SWENSON, ENDICOTT, and DOYLE patrolled off the east coast. DEHAVEN supported the advance of the 3₫ ROK Division along the east coast and shelled enemy troops with effective results. MAD- DOX and THOMAS operated between latitudes 40N and 41-50N seeking to destroy enemy ships and rolling stock. MANCHESTER and TOLEDO stood by off Inchon, but received no gunfire missions, Minesweepers completed sweeping a 1,500 yard channel in the Kunsan approaches. ROK police landed on and secured Wan Island off the south coast. A total of 203 sorties were flown by naval aircraft on 3 October. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) AIR Ox 3 October, FEAF aircraft flew a total of 459 sorties, including 212 combat Poor weather, an advancing bomb line, and a general paucity of targets hampered operations. On 4 October, FEAF Bomber Command dispatched 34 B-29's which attacked Munpyong, and communications targets, with good to excellent results.
