Situation in Brief: As major units assembled along the 38th parallel, ROK forces already north of that line continued to advance. The 23d Regiment of the 3d ROK Division closed to within 8 miles of Wonsan, while the 26th Regi- ment, swinging westward, entered Anbyon. The ROK Capitol Division advanced 10 miles northwest of Hoeyang. Two North Korean battalions were driven northwest from Hwachon, as the 6th ROK Division occupied the city. The 7th ROK Division crossed the 38th as advance elements, moving northeast from Uijongbu, seized Yongpyong, The enemy offered stubborn resistance to the advance of the 8th ROK Division in the vicinity of Yonchon, and to elements of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division in the Kaesong area. Navy ships and planes continued patrolling all Korean waters with no enemy activity reported. Naval patrol planes flew 42 sorties. FEAF aircraft flew 541 effective sorties, of which 321 were combat. Fighter- bombers are attacking enemy communications on a round-the-clock sched- ule. B-29's attacked 75 separate targets across north Korea. On 9 October, 30 B-29's were dispatched to continue the attack on enemy communications, (FECOM) (SECRET) 2. Weather: Overcast middle and low clouds with bases at 2,000 feet over all Korea. Visibility 6 miles, lowering to 2 miles in light rain showers. Fore- cast: Scattered middle and low clouds with visibility 8 miles, lowering to 2 miles in scattered showers. (FEAF) (SECRET) 3.
