1. Situation in Brief:
At 1000/10 (KT) the 3d ROK Division had seized half of Wonsan,
and by noon was securing the large airfield east of the city. The ROK
Capitol Division, advancing north to assist in the capture of Wonsan, was
only 10 miles to the south. The 6th ROK Division captured Nodong, while
elements of the 8th ROK Division captured Chorwon® The 1st US Cavalry
Division launched a major attack northward against the heaviest opposition
since the battle for Seoul. The 7th US Cavalry Regiment seized a bridgehead
across the Yesong River, capturing a railroad bridge intact. Navy ships
patrolled all Korean waters with no enemy activity reported. Naval air
continued to fly anti-mine, anti-submarine, and reconnaissance flights.
FEAF aircraft flew 437 effective sorties, including 222 combat. On
10 October, FEAF Bomber Command dispatched 38 B-29's, attacking
bridges, other communications, and transportation targets with good to
