From 0700/21 (EST) to 0700/22 (EST)
From 2100/21 (Korea) to 2100/22 (Korea)
1. Situation in Brief:
An Infantry-Tank Task Force from the 1st ROK Division dashed forward
over forty miles during the night and early morning, reaching the city of Anju
on the Chongchon River, and continued the advance to Kunu. This Task Force
was assigned the mission of intercepting an enemy train moving northeast to-
ward Kujang, and reportedly hauling U.S. PWs. The remainder of the Divi-
sion advanced over half the distance toward Sunchon from Pyongyang, libera-
ting an unreported number of U.S. PWs. Meanwhile, elements of the 1st U.S.
Cavalry Division thrust southwest, some 30 miles, to seize the port city of
Chinnampo. The 27th British Commonwealth Brigade advanced to the north-
west, approximately 20 miles, to Yong yu, linking up with Task Force Rogers
which had previously contacted elements of the 187th Airborne Regiment at
Sukchon. The ROK II Corps, having been assigned the objective of Huichon,
pushed the 6th ROK Division north from Sunchon toward Kunu, and the 8th ROK
Division northeast toward Tokchon from Unsan. In the U.S. X Corps zone,
elements of the ROK Capitol Division driving for Pukchong, sent two spear-
heads in parallel thrusts along the east coast. They were last reported 20
miles northeast of Hongwon in the towns of Oesang and Tong. Minesweeping
operations continued in the Wonsan and Haeju harbors. The coastal blockade
continued on both coasts, as adverse weather and low visibility limited both
surface and air operations. Naval air flew 151 sorties on 21 October, and U.N.
aircraft under FEAF control flew 481 effective sorties, including 212 combat.
The Combat Cargo Command flew 62 sorties, making a second air drop at
Sukchon. On 22 October, FEAF Bomber Command dispatched 12 B-29's to
continue the attack on dwindling enemy communications and interdiction targets,
