1. Situation in Brief:
Virtually unopposed, the 6th ROK Division completed its rapid advance
to the Manchurian border, occupying Chosan and advancing to the Yalu River.
The advance of the 1st ROK Division was halted at Unsan, 11 miles north of
Yongbyon, by a sharp hostile counterattack. The 27th British Commonwealth
Brigade captured Pakchon, swung to the west, and threw a bridgehead over the
Taeryong River. On the east coast, the Cavalry Regiment of the ROK Capitol
Division advanced to Chinchon, 7 miles southwest of Tanchon, while the 1st
Regiment, driving for Pungsan, was last reported in Chiktong. Naval surface
craft continued patrolling north of Wonsan while minesweepers completed
sweeping Iwon. Planes from VALLEY FORGE and LEYTE conducted strikes
against targets near the 39th parallel while planes from BADOENG STRAIT
and SICILY provided a combat air patrol in the Wonsan area. On 25 October,
U.N. aircraft under FEAF control flew 483 sorties, including 131 combat. FEAF
Bomber Command dispatched only two reconnaissance aircraft, and one leaflet
drop aircraft on 26 October. (FECOM) (SECRET)
2. Weather:
Broken middle and low clouds in north and central Korea, becoming
overcast in central and south Korea. Visibility restricted to 3 to 5 miles in haze
and smoke in coastal areas. Forecast: Broken to overcast low clouds with in-
termittent rain in central and south Korea during the night, becoming scattered
low clouds over all Korea by 2100/27 (KT). (FEAF) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. U.S. I Corps: The enemy offered light resistance as the 27th British
Commonwealth Brigade entered Pakchon, and secured the city by 1820/25 (KT).
Elements of the Brigade crossed the Taeryong River, south of the city, and
