AIR j. on 11 December, U.N. aircraft under FEAF control flew 506 effec- tive sorties, including 145 transport, 11 reconnaissance, and 350 combat, of which 75 were by U.S. Marine aircraft and 4 by SAAF aircraft. (FEAF) (SECRET) k. Air operations in support of ground forces were at a minimum due to lack of contact with enemy forces and inactivity along the front. Only 4 close support sorties were flown. Armed reconnaissance aircraft flew 130 sorties attacking targets of opportunity in 49 areas including Pyongyang, Sakchu, and Hadan. Forty-eight counter-air sorties were flown, with 36 on escort and 12 on patrol; all aircraft attacking targets of opportunity upon completion of primary missions. Night intruder aircraft flew 34 sorties against targets in 51 areas. Thirty-two light bomber sorties attacked tar- gets in 11 areas, including Yangdok, Suan, Changjin Reservoir, and Koto. FEAF Combat Cargo Command airlifted 597 passengers, 513 evacuees, and 496 tons of freight, including 49 tons of payload to Yonpo. (FEAF) (SECRET) 1. On 12 December, FEAF Bomber Command dispatched 23 aircraft, 11 visually attacking the marshalling yards and communication center at Sukchon with poor to good results, and 11 aircraft radar bombing Sinanju with unobserved to poor results. One aircraft conducted surveillance and photo mapping of north Korea. No losses, casualties, or enemy fighters were reported. (FEAF) (SECRET) m. FEAF claims of enemy losses for 11 December include 1 tank, 39 vehicles, 4 warehouses, 30 supply carts, 1 railroad bridge, and 140 troops destroyed; 1 tank, 35 vehicles, 'warehouses, 4 railroad cars, and 4 bridges damaged. (FEAF) (SECRET) n. On 12 December, four F-80's flying at 34,000 feet observed five vapor trails over Wonsan at approximately 35,000 feet. The F-80's were unable to intercept the aircraft which remained unidentified and which disap- peared to the northwest. (FEAF) (SECRET) O. On 13 December 24 B-29's are to be employed. Twelve aircraft will attack the communications center at Yangdok, and twelve will attack the communications center at Tokchon.
