Ninety close support sorties were flown, with 52 to ROK III Corps, 26 to
U.S. IX Corps, and 12 to U.S. I Corps. Armes reconnaissance aircraft
flew 158 sorties against targets of opportunity in over 50 areas, including
Huichon, Chorwon, Sonchon, Taechon, and the Pyongyang area. Fifty-seven
counter-air sorties were flown on escort and combat air patrol, with 37
of these aircraft attacking targets of opportunity upon completion of their
primary mission. During the night of 14-15 December, 26 intruder aircraft
attacked military targets in more than 50 areas, and light bombers by day
followed up with 30 sorties in 8 areas, among them Sinanju, Sukchon, and
Pyongyang. FEAF Combat Cargo Command's 265 sorties airlifted 2,756
passengers, 701 evacuees, and 964.5 tons of freight. 24 Bomber Command
aircraft attacked enemy lines of communication and resupply centers,
visually bombing the marshalling yards at Sonchon, Sinanju, Namsi and
Chongju with excellent results. The usual two RB-29's flew photo recon-

Is. On 16 December, although inclement weather obscured most tar-
get areas, FEAF was able to mount a limited number of combat flights in the
173d consecutive day of operations. Fifty-five effective sorties were flown,
including 5 reconnaissance, 7 fighter control, and 43 combat flights. Four
sorties were flown in close support of the IX th Corps sector. Twenty armed
reconnaissance aircraft attacked military targets of opportunity in seven
areas. Nineteen night intruders attacked military targets in 19 areas. The
FEAF Bomber Command dispatched one effective aircraft on a photo mapping
mission in North Korea, with poor results due to weather. The FEAF Combat
Cargo Command flew 230 effective sorties, airlifting 1,174 passengers, 258
evacuees and 1071-4 tons of freight. (FEAF) (SECRET)
1. On 17 December, U.N. aircraft under FEAF control flew a total of
587 sorties, including 125 transport, 20 reconnaissance, 39 fighter control,
and 403 combat, of which 14 were flown by U.S. Marine Corps aircraft, 12
by RAAF, and 10 by SAAF aircraft. Ninety=four close support sorties were
flown, with 71 to U.S. IX Corps, 20 to ROK II Corps, and 3 to U.S. I Corps.
Armed reconnaissance aircraft flew 153 sorties against targets of opportunity
in 53 areas, including many strikes in the Pyongyang area, where approximately
200 enemy troop casualties were inflicted, and between Huichon and Kanggye,
where an estimated 100 enemy troops piling out of boxcars were strafed.
Fifty-six counter-air sorties were flown on escort for B-29's and RF-80's
and on combat air patrol, attacking targets of opportunity upon completion
of their primary mission. Five night intruder aircraft attacked military
targets and started fires in 11 areas, and these strikes were followed up by
