1. Weather:
On 8 February, Korean weather was clear becoming broken to over-
cast north of 38N. Visibility was good until midday, then became restricted
to 3 to 5 miles in rain showers. Forecast for 9 February: Broken to over-
cast middle and low clouds becoming scattered and occasional broken low
clouds along the east coast by 0300/09 (KT). Visibilityto be 8 miles during
the day. Minimum battle area temperature: 20 F. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. Eighth U.S. Army: Virtually all forward units along the entire
U. N. front reported advances on 7 and 8 February against generally moder-
ate enemy resistance. Hit and run tank-infantry task forces are continuing
to open the way for advances by regular units. Principal enemy resistance
was encountered by the two task forces of the 25th U.S. Infantry Division
spearheading the general advance in the Western sector. (FECOM) (SECRET)
b. U.S. I Corps: 25th U.S. Infantry Division: Task Force Bartlett
encountered heavy opposition from a firmly entrenched enemy on high ground
4 miles west of Anyang. Task Force Dolvin, pushing up the main Suwon-
Seoul highway, reported five engagements near Anyang and northward for
about 2 miles on the morning of 7 February. By the evening of 7 February,
the 24th U.S. Infantry RCT was approximately 5 miles west of Anyang; the
Turkish Brigade 2 miles west of Anyang; the 35th U.S. Infantry RCT 1 mile
north of Anyang; and east of Anyang, the 15th ROK Regiment advanced up to
2 miles. 3d U.S. Infantry Division: Elements of the 65th U. S. Infantry
RCT occuried a hill 6 miles east of Anyang unopposed; Task Force Fisher,
moving north along the Tanchon River Valley, cleared mine fields 9 miles
east of Anyang and advanced to 8 miles east of Anyang on 7 February, with-
out contacting the enemy. (FECOM) (SECRET)
