1. Weather:

Clear most of the day with excellent visibility. Battle area
temperatures 20-40 degrees F. Forecast: Scattered to broken high and
middle clouds. Scattered low clouds will move over west and south
coastal areas after 0900/14 (KT) with unrestricted visibility. Battle
area temperatures will be 30-48 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
The east and west flanks of the Eighth Army front continued
quiet. Enemy resistance diminished along the remainder of the front
with the heaviest opposition noted in the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division zone
of operations. Friendly air observed an estimated enemy division dug
in opposite the 24th U.S. Infantry Division along the Hongchon River.
The roads leading from Seoul to Uijongbu (north) and Kuam (northeast)
appear to be heavily traveled. During the night of 11-12 March, 1,337
enemy vehicles were sighted in enemy rear areas, of which 880 were
moving toward the front. (FECOM)(SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. General: The Eighth Army advance continues. Elements
of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division are now 8 miles southwest and 6 miles
south of the road junction at Hongchon. Minor gains scored along entire
front except in the Seoul area. (FECOM)(SECRET
b. I U.S. Corps: The 1st ROK and 3d U.S. Infantry Divisions
maintained positions with activities confined to patrolling. 3d Division
patrols report a heavily guarded area 5 miles east of Seoul in the vicinity
of the eastern approach to the Han River bridge. 25th U.S. Infantry
Division encountered negligible resistance. A 35th U.S. Infantry Regi-
ment patrol operating to the north along the west bank of the Pukhan
River reached Kuam without enemy contact. (FECOM)(SECRET)
C. IX U.S. Corps: 24th U.S. Infantry Division units main-
tained positions while patrols encountered scattered enemy groups.
