Weather: A weak cold front passed through Korea accompanied by scat- tered low clouds and lowered temperatures. The visibility was generally good with battle area temperatures ranging from 35-55 degrees F. Fore- cast: Less than three-tenths cloud coverage with good visibility. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy resistance ranged from light to no contact across the Eighth Army front except in the area east of Hongchon, where the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division encountered stubborn resistance and repulsed 3 Banzai charges. No firm conclusions can be drawn at this time as to where the enemy will establish his main line of resistance. However, it must be borne in mind that he still has powerful forces at his disposal which would enable him to extend, without great difficulty, the zone of organized resistance deep into North Korea. (FECOM)(SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: After crossing the Hongchon River from Hongchon west to the Pukhan River, the IX U.S. Corps resumed the attack on a limited objective ascale. River crossings in the Seoul area were com- pleted without incident. Advances up to 6 miles were made by the 2d U.S. Infantry Division. 5th ROK Division troops successfully ambushed an enemy unit, killing an estimated 425, and capturing much U.S. -type materiel. IU.S. Corps: The 1st ROK Division completed crossing the Han River without incident and now occupies the following positions with respect to the outskirts of Seoul: 2 miles west on the north bank of the Han to 1 mile northwest, to 2 miles north and to 2 miles northeast. Enemy activity was limited to minor patrol clashes. 3d U.S. Infantry Division: The 65th U.S. Infantry Regiment (attached) advanced without opposition and occupied a 4-mile line on the north side of the Seoul- Kumgong highway from a point of origin 1 mile northeast of the outskirts
