Weather: Korean weather for the period was generally clear early in the period with increasing cloudiness, becoming overcast low and middle clouds with rain throughout Korea. Visibility 7 miles, reduced to 1-3 miles in rain. Battle area temperatures ranged from 22 to 60 degrees F. Forecast for 27 March: Broken to occasional overcast low and middle clouds. Visibility 7 miles. Battle area temperature 30 - 58 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: On the west flank in the Munsan area, enemy resistance was light. However, along the Uijongbu corridor and east of the Seoul-Uijongbu highway, stubborn enemy resistance in strength was encountered. in the IX Corps sector, enemy tactics north of Chunchon changed from a withdrawal to a delaying action with moderate opposition noted. Light to no contact reported in the Army right sector. No unusual activity noted in enemy rear areas. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General. The airborne assault launched by the 187th Airborne RCT, achieving tactical surprise, successfully secured the Munsan area. A reinforcing Task Force from the Seoul sector linked up in less than 9 1/2 hours. The equipment drop was generally good. Other I Corps units, attacking north in the Corps central and right sectors, are slowly reducing the Seoul salient. The remainder of the Eighth Army patrolled, consolidated positions, and launched several limited objective attacks. The 1st ROK Regiment on the east coast is at the 38th parallel. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I U. S. Corps: The 187th Airborne RCT (2d and 4th Ranger Companies attached) passed to operational control of I Corps effective drop time, 0905/23 (KT). The drop zone in the Munsan area was rapidly reinforced by ground elements. 4
