1. Weather:
Broken to overcast high and middle clouds prevailed over
Korea. Haze, fog and smoke reduced visibility to less than 2 miles.
Battle area temperatures ranged from 40-60 degrees F. Forecast:
Overcast high and middle clouds with low broken clouds. Visibility will
remain low. Battle area temperatures will range from 36-56 degrees

2. Enemy Situation:
Resistance ranged from light to none along entire front. Heavy
vehicular traffic continues in enemy rear areas. Air sighted 2, 092 ve-
hicles during night of 2-3 April, of which 1, 028 were. moving south. Large
numbers of troops and considerable activity in the central sector (Hwachon
Reservoir area) suggests an enemy buildup. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. General: The designation of a new phase line extending
across the entire front begins a new cycle in the Eighth Army limited ob-
jective offensive. Destruction of enemy forces, materiel, and supplies
continues to be emphasized. Substantial gains were made in Chunchon
sector as I and IX Corps units straighten the front line and slowly close
on the 38th Parallel. Minor changes and readjustment of positions char-
acterized activity in X U.S. Corps and I and III ROK Corps sector. (FE-

b. I U.S. Corps: The 24th U.S. Infantry Division passed to
operational control of I Corps at 2000/02 (KT). Operational control of
the 7th U.S. Infantry RCT passed from the 3d U.S. Infantry Division to
I Corps effective 2 April (KT). 1st ROK Division units on the Corps left
flank conducted diversionary attacks in the area northwest of Munsan.
Moderate enemy mortar and artillery fire was received during the period.
The 29th British Commonwealth Brigade patrolled without contact from
positions 12 miles northeast of Munsan. Newly laid enemy mines were
encountered on a road to the rear of Brigade front line positions. 3d U.S.
