enemy groups southeast of Munsan and reported enemy activity increas-
ing. West of Uijongbu, 1st US Cavalry Division units encountered several
hostile groups closer to friendly positions than previously reported. In
the 25th US Infantry Division sector, the Turkish Brigade was attacked
by an enemy regiment ten miles northeast of Seoul, but friendly positions
were restored by morning. Several company and battalion size enemy
groups were encountered in the area, and considerable southward move-

sion continued to resist heavy enemy pressure to the front, and several
enemy groups of up to battalion strength were engaged along the Kapyong 486
Seoul highway. Elements of the 2nd RCK Division engaged hostile regi-
mental and battalion sizegroupson the Hongchon River, nine miles south-
west of Kapyong. 6th ROK Division units maintained previous positions
and patrolled to the Kapyong area against enemy resistance of battalion
strength. Along the Corps right flank, the 7th US Infantry Division re-
ported one engagement with an enemy company five miles southeast of

X US Corps: 1st US Marine Division elements repulsed four
attacks by enemy regiments and other groups of undetermined size seven
miles south of Chunchon during the night. To the east, the enemy, at-
tacking in company to battalion strength, made a small penetration of 2nd
US Infantry Division lines thirteen miles east of Chunchon. One friendly
company was cut off early in the morning of 18 May. A friendly task
force was en route to relieve the situation, and at last reports elements
of the Netherlands Battalion and Ranger Company were attacking to close
the penetration. In the 5th ROK Division sector, an undetermined num-
ber of enemy continued strong pressure on withdrawing friendly units,
and an estimated enemy regiment attacked and penetrated four miles be.
hind forward positions before being stopped as the period closed. At
last reports, the Division was readjusting positions 18 miles northeast
of the town of Hongchon. In the 7th ROK Division sector, along the Corps
right flank, the enemy continued to exploit penetrations and established
a road block twelve miles southeast of Pupyong. Friendly air reported
three enemy regiments moving south in the area. At last reports, the
division was establishing positions eighteen miles south of the 38th paral-
lel, 25 miles east of Hongchon. One regiment of the 3d US Infantry
Division was en route to positions on the 7th ROK Division left flank, to
