Weather: Broken low and middle clouds beginning in the northeast and moving south, becoming scattered low and high clouds by the end of the period. Visibility 8 miles except in fog and light rain. Temperatures 50 to 75 degrees F. Forecast: Broken low, overcast middle, and scattered high clouds. Visibility 3 to 5 miles except in rain. Tem- peratures 54 to 68 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Severe hostile attacks of up to division strength penetrated UN lines in the east-central and east sectors during the period. Other strong attacks were launched down the Pukhan River valley in the IX Corps zone south of Kapyong. Enemy resistance continued relatively light in the western sectors. Considerable activity was observed in enemy rear areas, particularly in front of the X US Corps and the III ROK Corps. Enemy pressure across the front slackened somewhat as the period closed. General: Eight Army units withdrew to new positions east of Hongchon in the east sectors and adjusted defensive lines running generally Hongchon-Hangye-Hajinbu-Chumunjin In the west sectors, UN units attacked on 20 May and made gains up to 10, 000 yards toward Munsan and Uijongbu against small-uni resistance. The 25th Canadian Brigade closed into assembly areas near Seoul. The 3d US Infantry Division is in positions near Hajinbu. (FECOM) (SECRET)
