1. Weather:
On 1 June, scattered high and low clouds at the beginning of the
period, becoming clear. Visibility 6 to 8 miles. Temperatures 52 to
79 degrees F. Forecast: Broken high clouds north of 38 degrees,
with broken low clouds in the central and southwest sectors. Visibility
8 miles. Temperatures 54 to 80 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Enemy action continued aggressive along the main north-south
supply routes. Five hostile attacks of up to regimental size were made
in the Inje area. Two of these attacks overran one friendly regiment
and forced another to withdraw. The enemy also attacked in battalion
strength south of Kumhwa and against US Marine units east of the Hwachon
Reservoir, without penetration. Resistance elsewhere continued stub-
born and hostile use of artillery and mortar fire increased. (FECOM)

3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. General: Friendly advances were bitterly contested
across the UN front. 3d US Infantry Division units crossed the Hantan
River in the I US Corps sector. ROK units advanced in the Hwachon area
to positions 3 miles north of the reservoir. In the vicinity of Inje, UN
forces repelled 3 strong enemy attacks along the main road northeast of
the town without loss of ground. US Cavalry units captured 600 rounds
of 75-mm. artillery ammunition near Yonchon, and ROK forces south of
Kumhwa killed 559 enemy and captured 79 PW's, 13 trucks loaded with
ammunition and supplies, and 7 anti-aircraft guns in one encounter.
