1. Weather:
Broken to overcast low, middle, and high clouds for entire period. Visibility
8 miles, lowering to 2 to 4. miles in rain. Temperatures 59 to 78 degrees F. Fore-
cast: Scattered low with scattered to broken middle and high clouds. Visibility 8
to 10 miles except in showers. Temperatures 60 to 75 degrees F. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Hostile activity was generally light except in the vicinity of Kumhwa, where the
enemy stubbornly denied friendly advances and launched 3 counterattacks, forcing a
slight friendly withdrawal. Battalion to regimental size enemy groups were encoun-
tered by ROK units on the east coast. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND:
a. General: Friendly patrols ranged up to 7 miles ahead of front lines in the
Kumhwa - Pukhan River area, and UN attacking units gained up to 2 miles in the area
north and northeast of Inje. (FECOM) (SECRET)
b. I US Corps: 1st ROK Division patrols ranged across the Inajin River, en-
gaging an enemy platoon at one point. Patrols from the 29th British Brigade and the
Belgian Battalion moved out 2000 yards from bases on the river line without enemy
resistance. 1st US Cavalry Division units encountered a minefield, road block, and
scattered enemy groups across the Imjin west of Yonchon and in the area north of
the Yonchon - Sibyon road. In the Chorwon area, 3d US Infantry Division units pat-
rolled without significant contact. East of Kumhwa, 25th US Infantry Division and
Turkish Brigade positions were attacked by estimated 2 enemy companies, forcing
friendly withdrawals to the main line of resistance. This enemy group later withdrew,
and friendly patrols engaged enemy groups 6 miles north of Kumhwa. (FECOM)
