1. Weather:
Scattered low clouds and thin middle clouds. Visibility over 10
miles. Forecast: Multilayer overcast clouds. Visibility good (FEAF)

2. Enemy Situation:
Activity decreased somewhat during the period, but resistance
continued strong west of Chorwon and north of Yanggu. Several platoon-
and company-strength probing attacks were made upon UN positions
across the front. An anti-personnel minefield was encountered north-
west of Hudong in the central sector. The adjusted total of enemy vehi-
cle sightings for the period 30 September-1 October is 3, 528, of which
2, 603 were moving south. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: UN forces continued to attack north of Yanggu
and seized two hills after repulsing enemy counterattacks. Attacking
elements west of Chorwon withdrew to defensive positions after heavy
engagements with enemy groups of undetermined size. Nine hostile prob-
ing attacks were repulsed across the entire front. In the 25th US Infantry
Division sector, the 24th Regiment was inactivated effective 010001 (KT).

b. I US Corps: Elements of the 1st ROK, 1st British Com-
monwealth, and 1st US Cavalry Divisions patrolled against scattered
groups. Units of the 1st British Commonwealth Division repulsed probing
attacks by groups of platoon and undetermined strength seven miles west
of Yonchon, Units of the 3d US Infantry Division attacked west of Chorwon
and withdrew slightly after a heavy engagement with an undetermined num-
ber of enemy. Other elements of the Division adjusted front line positions.
UN artillery fired on numerous enemy targets across the Corps front, and
148 rounds of hostile mortar and artillery fire fell on Cavalry Division
positions. An enemy battalion was observed moving northeast eight miles
west of Chorwon, (FECOM) (SECRET)
