to Weather:
North of the battle line clear conditions prevailed, In west-central
sector, visibility near zero until early morning low clouds dissipated by
noon, 8 October. Maximum battle area temperature 65 degrees, mini-
mum 45. Forecast: Generally clear with scattered patches of ground fog
in central sectors and along west coast in early morning. Visibility 10
miles except where reduced by fog to less than one mile during early

2. Enemy Situation:
Resistance continued heavy in the west-central sector, where well
entrenched groups fought stubbornly west of Yonchon and west of Chorwon,
Resistance was also heavy in the east-central sector, north of Yanggu
Numerous strong counterattacks were made across the front during the
period, especially in the western sector against British Commonwealth
Division and 1st US Cavalry Division positions. Mortar and artillery fire
was heavy in this same area, with 2, 300 rounds falling upon British Com-
monwealth Division positions on 7 October. The adjusted total of vehicle
sightings for the period 4-7 October is 11, 858, of which 7, 686 were mov-

3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: UN Forces made limited gains in heavy fighting
in the western sector and were also heavily engaged in the east-central
sector, north of Yanggu, as the period closed. Several strong enemy
counterattacks of up to reinforced battalion strength were repulsed west
