Visibility 10 miles or more. Maximum temperature 72 degrees, minimum 52 degrees. Fore- cast: Broken clouds over all North Korea, visibility 10 miles. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Resistance continued very heavy in the least-central sector north of Yanggu, where well-entrenched company- and battalion-size groups fought bitterly against UN attacking forces. Several strong counterattacks were made on UN positions in this sector. Resistance decreased in the western sector, west of Chorwon. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 9-10 October is 810, of which 544 were moving south. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces continued to attack north of Yanggu and made gains of up to 1, 500 yards against very stubborn enemy resistance. Tank-infantry task forces advanced up to three miles ahead of 2d US Infantry Division positions in this sector, then returned to the lines. West of Chor- won, UN elements mopped up remnants of an enemy group dug in on the crest of a hill mass and secured the objective following a heavy engagement. Other forces across the front continued to patrol against scattered enemy groups. Several hostile probing attacks were repulsed. The Belgian Bat- talion occupied new positions north of Chorwon in the 3d US Infantry Division sector, and the 7th US Infantry Division (-) was attached to the IX US Corps effective 101400 (KT).
