improved on 21 and 22 October to scattered clouds with the only visibility
restriction that of light ground fog in valleys. Maximum temperature 62

2. Enemy Situation:
Company- and battalion-strength groups continued to oppose UN ad-
vances in the central sector, south of Kumsong, in heavy fighting. Counter-
attacks by groups of up to two battalions in strength were made in this sec-

forced to withdraw northward by the UN advances. Resistance was light to
moderate in the western sector, northwest of Yonchon, and in the east-
central sector north of Yanggu. Heavy mortar and artillery fire fell on UN
positions in the western sector. Three tanks were observed near Kumsong,
to the front of the 24th US Infantry Division. The 63₫ CCF Army moved to
new positions about 10 miles north of Sibyon. The adjusted total of vehicle
sightings for the period 18-20 October is 1,299, of which 818 were south-
bound. The preliminary total for 20-21 October (limited by very poor
weather) is 16, all of which were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET)
