b. I US Corps: Patrols from the 1st ROK and the 1st British
Commonwealth Divisions engaged squad- to company-size groups across
the Imjin River. 1st ROK Division units observed numerous other groups
up to battalion size south and east of Kaesong. An estimated 220 rounds
of enemy mortar and artillery fire fell on 1st British Commonwealth Divi-
sion positions. Elements of the 1st US Cavalry Division attacked nine
miles northwest of Yonchon and gained up to 2,000 yards against groups
of undetermined size. An enemy company attacked a Cavalry Division
patrol base at 260050 (KI); the action had decreased by 260600 (KT). One
hundred fifty rounds of mixed artillery fire fell on a patrol base position
in the Division sector. Friendly patrols destroyed 80 cases of energy
mortar ammunition west of Chorwon. Units of the 9th ROK Division re-
pulsed four probing attacks by squad- to company-strength groups north-
west and north of Chorwon, Division patrols engaged squad-size hostile

Cu IX US Corps: Elements of the 25th US Infantry Division (Tur-
kish Brigade attached) patrolled against groups of squad, platoon, and
undetermined size west and north of Kumhwa. One probing attack by a
group of undetermined size was repulsed. A tank-infantry task force
probed north of Kumhwa against an undetermined number of enemy.
Elements of the 2d ROK Division attacked against platoon-strength resis-
tance southwest of Kumsong and repulsed a counterattack by two enemy
platoons in the same area; friendly elements withdrew to previous posi-
tions. A tank-infantry task force probed along the Kumhwa-Kumsong
road and engaged groups of undetermined size. A hostile company forced
a friendly reconnaissance company to withdraw on the morning of 26 Oc-
tober. Right flank units of the 24th US Infantry Division attacked groups
of undetermined size southeast of Kumsong and later disengaged. Ele-
ments of the Division patrolled more than two miles north of Kumsong
against squad- to company-size groups, Outpost elements repulsed two
platoon=strength attacks two miles southwest of Kumsong, and a rein-
forced hostile platoon attacked two miles south of Kumsong. Two smaller
enemy probing attacks were repulsed in the Division sector, and a Divi-
sion tank patrol advanced about a mile on the Division right flank, fired
on a group of undetermined size, then returned to former positions. On
the Corps right flank, elements of the 6th ROK Division continued to attack
and made slight advances just west of the Pukhan River against two hostile
platoons. A company=strength probing attack, eight miles southeast of
Kumsong, forced Division units to withdraw about 1, 000 yards. (FECOM)
