1. Weather:
On 29 October, there were scattered low clouds over all areas, and
fog along the west coast. Maximum temperature 65 degrees, minimum 34.
Forecast: Generally clear for 30 October. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Hostile resistance continued stubborn against attacking UN forces north
of Yanggu in the east-central sector. Numerous strong probing attacks were
made against US, Colombian, and ROK forces south and southeast of Kumsong
in the central sector. Elsewhere across the front, scattered groups engaged
UN patrols. An estimated 2 enemy battalions attacked friendly guerrilla ele-
ments 11 miles southwest of Kaesong on the night of 27-28 October, forcing
the friendly elements to withdraw. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for
25-28 October is 11, 220, of which 7, 884 were southbound The adjusted total
for 28-29 October is 2, 851, of which 1, 519 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: UN forces continued to attack north of Yanggu and
made slight gains against battalion-strength resistance. Squad- to battalion-
strength enemy attacks in the Kumsong area were repulsed without loss of
ground. UN groups continued to probe northward in this area against groups
of reinforced platoon and two company size. The Philippine Battalion, former-
ly attached to the 3d US Infantry Division, is attached to the IX US Corps, fur-
ther attached to the 25th US Infantry Division, effective 290600 (KT). The 38th
Regiment of the 2d US Infantry Division, with the Netherlands Battalion attached,
passed to operational control of the IX US Corps effective 301200 (KT). (FECOM)
