Weather: North Korea was clear with occasional scattered low clouds. Visi- bility was restricted during early morning hours. South Korea was over- cast with low, middle, and high broken clouds. Maximum battle area temperature 45 degrees; minimum 28. Forecast: Clear, with occasional scattered low clouds throughout all Korea. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Light probing attacks were made against UN positions across the front. Artillery and mortar fire was moderately heavy in the east-central sector. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 11-12 December is 663, of which 464 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces, attacking southeast of Kaesong, engaged an enemy battalion and later withdrew to the MLR. UN patrols continued to engage groups up to company size in frequent clashes. Artillery was active in firing on numerous hostile personnel, supply, and gun targets. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Attacking elements of the 1st ROK Division engaged an enemy battalion eight miles southeast of Kaesong until 121630(KT), when friendly elements withdrew to the MLR. Outpost elements of the 1st British Commonwealth Division withdrew to the MLR after an attack by an enemy squad west of Yonchon. A Division patrol engaged an undetermined number of enemy in the center of the Division sector. Patrols from the 3d US and 9th ROK Divisions engaged squad- and platoon-size groups west and north- west of Chorwon. 3d Division artillery fired on several enemy groups, a supply point, and an ammunition dump.
