Weather: Weather improved from thin broken middle and high clouds over Cen- tral and South Korea to clear by 0200 (KT) over all Korea, with visibility unrestricted. Battle area temperatures ranged from 02 degrees minimum to 23 degrees maximum. Forecast: Clear tonight becoming scattered high and middle clouds by 0900 (KT). Visibility restricted 4-5 miles in haze north of 37 degrees. Battle area temperatures 10 degrees minimum, 28 degrees maximum. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Company-size enemy groups continued to oppose ROK advances in the western sector northeast of Panmunjom. A company-strength counterattack was made in this sector. Elsewhere across the front, numerous groups of up to company size engaged UN patrols in fire fights. An unidentified air- craft strafed 24th US Division positions three miles south of Kumsong at 070100 (KT); no casualties or damage reported. The adjusted total of ve- hicle sightings for 6-7 January is 776, of which 555 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces continued to advance northeast of Panmunjom and occupied two objectives by the morning of 8 January. In other sectors, UN patrols continued active against scattered enemy groups. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Elements of the 1st ROK Division continued to ad- vance in the area six to seven miles northeast of Panmunjom against company- strength resistance. A company-strength hostile counterattack at 070955 (KT) ended when the enemy withdrew at 072100 (KT).
