1. Weather:
Weather was operational in all Korea on 16 January, with only scat-
tered clouds existing up to 171800 (KT). Battle area temperatures ranged
from 38 degrees maximum to near 15 minimum. Forecast for 171800-
181800 (KT) shows increasing cloudiness at all altitude levels with middle
clouds occasionally broken in South Korea; restricted visibility in morning
fog in Central Korea; and battle-area temperatures ranging from 40 degrees
to a minimum near 18. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Squad- and platoon-size groups continued to probe UN positions in
all Corps sectors, forcing one friendly withdrawal northeast of Panmunjom.
An unidentified aircraft dropped two 500-1b. bombs in a mindfield in the
45th US Division sector p.m. 16 January; no casualties or damage reported.
The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 15-16 January is 369, of which
310 were southbound, (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: UN forces repulsed small probing attacks
and continued to engage scattered enemy groups in patrol clashes. Raiding
patrols from the 45th US Division engaged groups of undetermined size west
of Chorwon. The 11th ROK Division passed from operational control CG I
ROK Corps to C/S ROK Army at 152400 (KT). (FECOM) (SECRET)
