Weather: Weather was non-operational on the night of 27/28 January and yester- day except in the NW sector yesterday afternoon where it was marginal to nonoperational. Battle area temperatures ranged from 39 degrees maximum to 25 degrees minimum. Forecast to 301800(KT): clearing skies, becoming clear throughout all Korea by 292000(KT); visibility unrestricted; maximum battle area temperature 30 degrees, minimum 15. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy activity was highlighted by three platoon=strength probing attacks in the X Corps sector. Squad-strength probing attacks were launched against the I ROK Corps sector. Elsewhere, enemy activity was limited to patrol intercepts. There was no report of vehicle sightings for 27-28 January. (FE- COM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces continued to engage groups up to two-platoon strength in daily patrol clashes and repulsed light enemy probing attacks. The 40th US Division assumed responsibility for the 24th US Division sector at 0755(KT) on 28 January. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Three miles northeast of Panmunjom, an enemy force estimated at two squads probed 1st ROK Division positions. Division patrols contacted enemy groups of squad to platoon strength farther northeast. No activity was reported in the sector of the 1st British Commonwealth Division. Elsewhere along the Corps front, patrols of the 3d US, 45th US, and the 9th ROK Divisions engaged enemy groups of squad to two-platoon strength. (FE- COM) (SECRET)
