Weather: During the period 291800-301800 (KT) January, weather was opera- tional in all target areas. Visibility was unrestricted. Battle-area temper- atures ranged from 35 degrees, high, down to 20 degrees. Forecast for 301800-311800 (KT): Broken low clouds along the west coast becoming scattered by late PM; scattered high clouds over North Korea; visibility 2-4 miles in morning fog and smoke in some valleys; battle-area temperatures from 37 degrees to 15 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Small hostile groups continued to probe UN positions northwest of Yonchon in the western sector and south of Kosong on the least coast. Mines damaged two tanks and a tank recovery vehicle near Kumsong. Mortar and artillery fire continued moderately heavy northwest and north of Sohwa. The adjusted report of vehicle sightings for 28-29 January is 1, 296, of which 854 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces repulsed or contained light probing attacks and continued to engage scattered hostile groups of up to company size in pa- trol clashes. 3d US Division artillery fired on two armored vehicles north- west of Yonchon in the western sector. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Patrols from the 1st ROK, 1st British Common- wealth, 3d US, 45th US, and 9th ROK Divisions continued to engage scattered small groups in their respective sectors. An enemy squad probed 3d US Division positions eight miles northwest of Yonchon on the night of 29 January and later withdrew. 3d US Division artillery fired on two armored vehicles near the south bank of the Imjin River. A 9th ROK Division patrol engaged an enemy company seven miles north of Chorwon. (FECOM) (SECRET)
