Weather: Broken high clouds and scattered middle clouds. Visibility un- restricted. Maximum battle area temperature 28 degrees, minimum 8 degrees. Forecast: Scattered high and middle clouds. Ground fog through north and central valleys during early morning. Maximum temperature 12 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: The enemy continued to make small probing attacks upon UN positions northeast of Panmunjom and east of Kumsong. Mortar and artillery fire was moderately heavy on 1st US Marine Division positions. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 29-30 January is 2, ,277, of which 1, 549 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces repulsed light probing attacks and engaged scattered hostile groups in patrol clashes. 3d US Division patrols were heavily engaged northwest of Yonchon, and a company-size raiding patrol from the 9th ROK Division encountered resistance northwest of Chorwon. The Colombian Battalion passed from operational control of the 24th US Divi- sion to the 7th US Division, effective 281845 (KT), and closed in an assembly area northeast of Yanggu. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: A patrol from the 1st ROK Division engaged two enemy squads nine miles northeast of Panmunjom. Slightly farther northeast, two enemy squads probed an outpost position of the 1st British Commonwealth Division and later withdrew. 3d US Division patrols were heavily engaged on 30 January with groups of squad and undetermined size west and north- west of Yonchon. A patrol from the 45th US Division and a company-size raiding patrol from the 9th ROK Division engaged squad- and platoon-size groups in their respective sectors west and northwest of Chorwon.
