Weather: Scattered low clouds over all Korea. Visibility restricted to 3 to 5 miles in rain showers. Maximum battle area temperature 50 degrees, minimum 28 degrees. Forecast: Scattered low and high broken clouds. Visibility restricted to 2 to 5 miles in haze and fog during the morning. Maximum battle area tem- perature 52 degrees, minimum 35 degrees. Enemy Situation: With the exception of three small-scale probing attacks on the eastern front, energy activity was confined to scattered patrol intercepts by squad-strength groups. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 23-24 March is 684, of which 1, 291 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN patrols encountered scattered enemy groups of squad size, Three small probing attacks in the eastern sector were repulsed. The 1st US Marine Division (minus) assumed responsibility for the 1st ROK Division sector effective 250400 (KT). (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: The 1st US Marine Division (minus) with the 1st Korean Marine Corps Regiment and the 5th Korean Marine Corps Battalion attached assumed responsibility for the 1st ROK Division sector effective 250400 (KT). The 1st Marine Regiment relieved the 12th and 15th ROK Regi- ments of the 1st ROK Division on line. Elements of the 1st ROK Division are en route to an unreported location. A patrol of the 1st British Commonwealth Division engaged an undetermined number of enemy northeast of Panmunjom. There was no contact with the enemy in the 3d US, 45th US and 9th ROK Division sectors. One hundred eleven rounds artillery and mortar fire fell in the 45th US Division sectors.
