1. Weather:
Weather was generally operational during the period. Cloud cover
scattered broken middle and high clouds. Visibility good. Forecast:
Scattered high clouds. Visibility reduced due to haze. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Activity increased at the end of the period in the east-central sector,
where enemy groups aggregating a company, supported by 1, 200 rounds of
mortar and artillery fire, attacked two positions of the 3d ROK Division
just east of the Pukhan River. A probing attack against the 1st ROK Divi-
sion northwest of Yonchon on 6 May forced friendly elements to withdraw
from an OP position. An enemy vehicle convoy 3 miles long was observed
moving across the front of the 1st ROK Division. The adjusted total of
enemy vehicle sightings for the period 4-7 May is 4, 902, of which 2, 819
were southbound, (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: A tank raiding patrol from the 40th US Division
engaged an estimated enemy battalion dug in southwest of Kumsong on 7 May.
Other UN patrols engaged hostile groups of up to company size. Elements
of the 1st ROK Division reoccupied an outpost position from which they had
previously been forced to withdraw. (FECOM) (SECRET)
