1. Weather:
Scattered low clouds becoming overcast, with rain beginning in the
south coastal areas, moving to the battle area. Skies gradually cleared,
and by the 29th, broken high cloudiness increased to overcast above 20,000
feet. Visibility was generally 5-7 miles. Battle area temperatures ranged
from 55 to 85 degrees. Forecast for 30 May: Broken to overcast middle
clouds at 6, ,000 feet over South and 16, 000 feet over North Korea. Visi-
bility will be 3-5 miles in light fog along the west coast. Battle area tem-
peratures 57 to 78 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Hostile activity centered in the area south and northeast of Panmun-
jom, where enemy groups of up to company size, supported by small arms,
grenades, and mortar and artillery fire, stubbornly resisted raiding patrols
from the 1st US Marine Division. Elsewhere across the front, scattered
enemy groups probed UN positions and engaged in patrol clashes. A propa-
ganda, broadcast was heard in the 6th ROK Division sector, near Kumsong,
and propaganda leaflets continued to be received on 25 US Division positions,
west of Kajon. The volume of hostile mortar and artillery fire continued
high, with a total of 6, 619 rounds falling on 28 May; this was the highest one-
day total for the month thus far, and includes a total of 4, 388 rounds on 1st
US Marine Division positions. Substantial amounts also were received on
X US Corps front-line positions. On 27 May, FEAF attacked a large number
of vehicles, 2 columns of troops, and 6 vehicles towing unidentified objects
near Sibyon, about 20 miles northwest of 1st British Commonwealth Division
positions on the 1st US Corps front. Adjusted total of enemy vehicle sightings
for 25-28 May is 7, 415, of which 4, 282 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET)
