From 2100/12 (Korea) to 2100/16 (Korea)
1. Weather:
Scattered clouds over all Korea with some thunderstorms. Tempera-
tures ranged from 57 to 87 degrees. Forecast: Continued cloudy with show-
ers. Battle area temperatures 60 to 90 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Enemy activity continued heavy west of Chorwon, where company- and
battalion-size groups probed UN positions and stubbornly resisted UN raider
patrols. Company-size hostile groups also were active in the Kumsong area
and in the east-central sector, near Kajon. Enemy activity was accompanied
by a heavy volume of mortar and artillery fire; a total of 11, 545 rounds fell
on UN positions on 14 June, the highest daily total thus far recorded. Heavi-
est.fire continued to be received on 45 US Division positions, west of Chorwon.
Substantial amounts also were received by UN units in the Kumsong area. The
adjusted total of vehicle sightings for the period 11-15 June is 9,879, of which
5,824 were southbound The previously reported relief of the Twelfth CCF
Army by the Sixtieth CCF Army in the Kumsong area appears to have been
prematurely accepted. Prisoners apparently are being captured in this area
from both armies. Pending further evidence, both these armies are carried
in contact in the Kumsong area. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
UN raider patrols continued to attack enemy positions across the
front and engaged stubborn hostile groups in numerous clashes during the per-
iod. A battalion of the 45th US Division seized an objective west of Chorwon on
13 June and later repulsed hostile counterattacks in the area. Raider patrols
from the 40th US and 6th ROK Divisions attacked northward in the Kumsong
area on 14 June and forced hostile groups to withdraw.
UN patrols encount-
ered numerous other small groups across the front. (FECOM) (SECRET)
