Weather: Weather in Korea during the period 24 through 27 July was operational to marginal, with rain and low clouds in the early part of the period, becoming largely non-operational 27 July. (FFAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy activity continued generally light across the front, with principal probing activity in the west sector. On each day of the period, enemy groups of from two-squad to company size attacked positions of the 1st US Marine Division six miles south of Panmunjom. In the sector northwest of Yonchon, enemy groups of from squad to company size attacked each day against positions of the 3d US Division. The heaviest action of the period occurred in the 2d US Division sector 8 miles west of Chorwon, on 25 July, when an estimated enemy battalion supported by a substantial amount of mortar and artillery fire attacked UN positions in a 31/2 w hour engagement. Elsewhere across the front, sporadic minor probing attacks and patrol clashes were reported, with engagements up to three hours' duration. On 27 July, ground action was limited owing to poor weather. Hostile mortar and artillery fire totalled 13, 992 rounds for the period. 6, 499 rounds fell in the 1st US Corps Sector, of which almost 4, 500 rounds fell on 25 July. Sightings of enemy vehicle traffic totalled 5, 853, of which 4, 276 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: UN forces repulsed probing attacks up to battalion size and maintained positions across the front. Aggressive patrol and raider operations in forward areas were continued against scattered but sometimes very stubborn opposition with en- gagements up to three hours duration.
