1. Weather:
The weather during the period 28 Aug through 1 Sep ranged from non-
operational to operational. On the 28th and 30th, it was marginal becoming
worse on the 31st when heavy clouds and rain made the area marginal or
non-operational, On the 1st, there an was improvement in the weather and
it was operational through the day. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Enemy activity continued light during the period. Action was character-
ized by sporadic, minor, probing attacks, the largest of platoon size and last-
ing one hour in the I ROK Corps sector, four miles southeast of Kosong, on 1
September. Minor probes were made against OP positions in the 1st Marine
Division sector on 3 days of the period. The largest, of platoon strength and
lasting 20 minutes, occurred on Sunday, 31 August. Generally brief probing
attacks of squad and two-squad strength occurred against the 1st British Com-
monwealth Division, 25th US Division, 2d ROK, 6th ROK, 7th ROK, 8th ROK,
and Capitol ROK Divisions during the period. Scattered, generally light oppo-
sition to United Nations patrols was highlighted on 1 September by a 35-minute
engagement in the least sector about 4 miles southeast of Kosong. Hostile
mortar and artillery fire for the period totaled 19, 439 rounds, of which 7,992
rounds fell in the I US Corps sector,
4, 673 rounds in the X US Corps
sector, and 4, 290 rounds in the II ROK Corps sector. Sightings of enemy ve-
hicle traffic totaled 4, 608 for the period, of which 2, 585 were southbound. Poor
weather hampered vehicle sightings during the
last day of the period.

3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
United Nations forces maintained positions and repulsed sporadic
minor probing attacks during the period. UN patrol and raider groups contin-
ued aggressive activities in all sectors against scattered opposition generally
