Weather: Weather throughout the period was generally poor with much rain and snow. Only on 26 and 29 November was it operational, the other times ranging from non-operational to marginal. On three days there was heavy fog in the central area. Battle area temperatures ranged from a low of 28° to a high of 60° F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 200 Enemy Situation: Enemy activity continued light throughout the period, characterized by generally minor probes and patrol clashes. Action was highlighted on HILL 391, northeast of CHORWON, where, on 26 November, an enemy company attacking from three directions, forced UN outpost elements to withdraw after a two and one-half hour fight. However, the enemy later withdrew and the position was reoccupied by UN elements without contact. Sporadic action continued in the SNIPER RIDGE area throughout the period with enemy probes of up to company strength being repulsed after engagements of up to two hours duration. Enemy opposition to UN patrol and raider operations was highlighted by two engagements with enemy companies in the west sector on 28 and 30 November, in the 1st ROK and 1st Marine Division sectors, respectively. Hostile mortar and artillery fire for the five-day period totalled approximately 47,600 rounds, of which almost 28, 800 rounds fell in the IX US Corps sector. Sightings of enemy vehicle traffic totalled 7, 193, of which 4, 565 were south bound. During this five-day period, one day's sightings were negative owing to poor weather. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3.
