S. TRUMAN HARRY NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND LIBRARY RECORDS U.S. SERVICE" GOVERNMENT Mr. Arnold September 5, 1951 Robert J. Schwarts Chinese Assets of $100,000 or Over as of June 14, 1941 Reference is made to my memorandum of August 2, 1951 on the above subject, attaching an IBM run entitled "Foreign Assets of $100,000 or over, Located in United States, Owner Located in China, from TFR-300 Reports". Since available records indicated that this run was based upon final consolidated edited reports, no extended examination was made of the individual reports upon which it was based. In connection with the work now being done for you on the as- sets of Chinese nationals located in the United States, as reported in the TFR-300 Census, the reports of certain Chinese nationals 10- cated in China were reviewed. In most cases, a study of these re- ports confirmed the accuracy of the figures included in the IBM run of Chinese nationals in China. In two instances, however, correc- tions should be made on the run as follows: 1. Delete $855,659 shown for Liang, Chang Heiao. This dupli- cates the largest part of the $860,878 shown on the following line for Liang, Chang H. The two entries were for the same person, but the duplication was apparently not detected before the run was made. 2. On the line for Sze, Sao-Ke Alfred, substitute $84,865 for the $223,789 shown. (of the $84,865, property amounting to $59,514 was held by Sao-Ke Alfred Sze as joint tenant with his wife, Alice Tong Sze.) The $138,924 difference between the amount shown on the IBM run and the corrected figure represents a custodian account in the name of Mai-mai Sze (daughter) over which Mr. and Mrs. Sze held power of attorney. This account on June 1, 1940 was held in the names of Sao-Ke Alfred, Alice Tong and Deson Sze as joint tenants. DECLASSIFIED E.O. 12065, Sec. 3-402 State Dept. Guideline, June 12, 1979 By NLT- TREASURY HC LTR. 6-26-79 NARS, Date 7.17.80 BJR:BJS:e1p:9/5/51
