any efforts by ether in cooperation with the
Chinese dovernment which those dovernments may think prac-
tieable. Nis Najesty's Sovernment will resall, hovever,
that from the begimning of consideration of the proposed
northwrest supply route from India to Chime it has been the
view of this Government that meither the military nor the
esonomic petentialities of this FOUT are likely to be,
comparatively speaking, great. In view of its opinion
that Asvelopment et other routes would offer more of an
advantage to the United Nations' war effort than develep-
ment of this route, this Government would prefer not to
be
