RADIO SPEECH OF SENATOR HARRY S. TRUMAN or STATION WDAF, OCTOBER 30, 1936, 6:00 P.M. of LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF THE RADIO AUDIENCE: The campaign is drawing to a close, and not much can be said to change the situation. With your indulgence I should like to give you my views about the State, local and National situation, in as few words as possible. The Republican candidate for Governor of Missouri is making his campaign by throwing rocks at T. J. Pendergast and the Jackson County Democrats. The Republicans would give all they have for a leader with half his ability. Every time they' ve maping made a campaign of the sort they are now, Pendergast has come out stronger than ever. He will this time, too. Mr. Barrett says Major Stark is wrong because the Jackson County Democratic Organization is for him. Some eighty or ninety counties in the State endorsed Major Stark before the Jackson County Organization, headed by Mr. Pendergast, came out for him. He was endorsed by our Organization because he is the best man for the place that could be found in the State, and because the out-State Democrats wanted him. Mr. Barrett has no platform and nothing constructive to offer -- he's against Pendergast. My friends, if you'll only compare the record of the Gardiner administration on one side and the Park administration on the other of twelve long years of Republican rule, you will come to the conclusion that the best interests of Missouri are served when the Democrats are in power.
