Mr. Chairman, distinguished guests and fellow Democrats:

We are gathered hore this evening for two purposes. First,
to pay homage on his birthday to the Father of Democracy - Thomas Jefferson.

people. In contrast, the Republican Party usually represents the privileged

democratic victories are won on the baeis of principles and performance, and
not merely money and wealth!
The two party system is the very essence of American democracy. To
permit our constitutional government to operate effectively, we must support
the Party of our choice, and in America, thank God, we still have a free choice!
In the conduct of this war, there has been most commendable cooperation
between members of every political faith. All realized that unless we win this
and
war, there will be only one party in America -- 1 that distated
by
our
enemies. In the fight for real democracy, all must stand up and be counted.

Sharp party differences forced the people to take sides, while the future of
democracy was being decided. In that day certain leaders had sincere
doubts concerning the ability of the American people to qualify for real democracy.
