i
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentleman:
I am very happy to be back home again in Missouri.
During the past five weeks, I have been in twenty-five
states and in all sections of the country. My travels
have given me personal contact with people in the Deep
South
people on the West Coast
people in New
England and New York
and people in the great Agricul-
tural Mid-West. I have found three things to be uppermost
in the minds of all Americans just as in the minds and
hearts of the people of Missouri.
FIRST, is the winning of the War, quickly and completely.
SECOND, the winning of the peace so that our children and
our children's children will never again be called
upon to lay down their lives on the field of battle.
THIRD, the reconversion of our vast production facilities
now developed for the destruction of our enemies to
production for peace Production that will afford
freedom and opportunity to not only this generation
but to the generations to come.
If ever the American people have been brought together in
a singleness of purpose it is in their desire to win the war
and to win the peace. We are winning the war because the whole
nation has done it's part. Miracles of production have been
achieved on the farm and in the factory. America has truly

become the Arsenal of Democracy. Over 11,000 men have been
